| Customer Reviews: One Man's Experience With Sensodyne October 29, 2008 Zachary Koenig (Fergus Falls, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A few months ago, I awoke one morning with a very sensitive upper front tooth. Each time a cold substance (even a rush of air) passed over that tooth, it would send a jolt of pain through my mouth.
I was puzzled by this, as I had never had trouble with teeth sensitivity before, but on the advice of my Dad (a dentist) I purchased this product.
After just a few days of rubbing this paste on the sensitive tooth, my problem completely disappeared and I have not had any problems since! I now alternate brushing with this product and a better-tasting paste (the chalky taste is the one downside of Sensodyne) and that system seems to prevent any sensitivity from developing.
Make sure however, that whatever sensitivity-relieving product you purchase (whether Sensodyne or others) contains the active ingredient Potassium Nitrate (5%), which will fill in the areas in the tooth that are exposed to the cold elements.
Saved my tooth December 27, 2007 The Bird Says... (San Francisco) I recently went to the dentist to have a full porcelain crown put on one of my very back teeth. during the two weeks that it had a temporary crown the tooth became sensitive to hot and cold even after the final porcelain crown was put on. i gave it a few days but went back to the dentist to see if the crown was leaking because it seemed like it was. everything i tried to eat or drink even if it was only slightly warm or cold would set it off. i began to think that it was going to need a root canal because the pain was very deep and definitely coming from the root. the sensation was not direct but the temperature change would sink in and a few seconds later the root would begin to throb, sometimes for up to 2 hours before it would go away. the dentist gave me a tube of sensodyne and a prescription for naproxen 500mg tablets. They are the same as Aleve but 500mg instead of 200mg per tablet. After using Sensodyne and naproxen for two weeks the pain became a lot less. tolerable to eat and drink. now it is three weeks and the sensation is almost completely gone. in combination with naproxen the sensodyne has really helped. i have never had sensitive teeth but for this situation Sensodyne has helped tremendously. I am really surprised by its effectiveness. It seems to insulate the nerve from hot and cold activity.
